Buying local products is an important boost to your community. When you spend your dollars at the Market on Main, rather than a big box store, you and your community benefit in many ways:
- Frugal. Small businesses such as our farms “return a total of 52 percent of their revenue to the local economy, compared to just 14 percent for the national chain retailer.” When you buy local, more money stays local! Our farms will be offering great deals on in-season produce, too.
- Fresh. Our farms harvest their vegetables fresh for market—usually within 24 hours. At a grocery store, product is often shipped in from out of state or even the country, meaning weeks between harvest and your dinner plate. (Vegetables are often picked before they are ready and then artificially ripened before going on shelves!)
- Flavorful. Fresh and local just tastes better, especially when farmers can grow unique varieties not suitable for shipping or sale in a retail store.
- Friendly. The best reason to shop at the Market on Main is to get to know the very people who grow what you eat. Our farmers are excited to talk with you about their products and get to know you and your family!
